A male loggerhead sea turtle was released back to the Gulf of Mexico at Vanderbilt Beach in Naples Thursday after being treated at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife on Sanibel. The turtle, along with a female, green sea turtle were treated for the effects of red tide poisoning and other ailments. The Naples site was chosen because red tide has been prevalent near the location where they were found which was off of Captiva.

Two sea turtles, a female green and male loggerhead, were released Thursday into the Gulf of Mexico at Vanderbilt Beach in Naples after being treated for the last month at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) on Sanibel.

The turtles were suffering from red tide poisoning, among other ailments. Although found off Captiva, the turtles were released in Naples because red tide has been prevalent near Sanibel, but not the North Naples coastline. Members of Turtle Time were present for the release.
