The average yearly cost of attending a state university in Florida is $6,155.

To help families discover ways to make college possible, Lee Schools will host several financial aid workshops next month to explain the process for applying to federal financial aid.

The workshops will focus on how families can use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to receive scholarships and loans and to qualify for work-study programs at post-secondary institutions.

College financial aid experts will be in attendance to help answers about the application process, deadlines and additional aid opportunities.

The events, which all run from 6 to 8 p.m., are as follows:

• Wednesday, Nov. 5 in the Lehigh Senior High auditorium

• Thursday, Nov. 6 at the South Fort Myers High auditorium

• Tuesday, Nov. 18 at the Dunbar High auditorium

• Wednesday, Nov. 19 in the Cape Coral High cafeteria

The district has also planned two additional workshops in January. These will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hodges University:

• Thursday, Jan. 8 at 4501 Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers

• Thursday, Jan. 22 at 2655 Northbrooke Dr. in Naples
