The City of Cape Coral is teaming up with "The BULLY project" this weekend to host a a free event advocating safe school atmospheres.

Cape Coral Mayor Marini Sawicki will host the free event, which will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at Jaycee Park.

The event will feature a presentation by bullying victim Chris Cheney, as well as a screening of "Bully," a PG-13 documentary that highlights how bullying affects victims, perpetrators and witnesses alike. The public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

"October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and the City of Cape Coral is joining with other cities in the U.S. Conference of Mayors' campaign to end bullying," Sawicki said in the press release. "Millions of kids are bullied each year, and we need to work together to create safe and caring schools and communities."
