The precautionary boil water notice issued July 5 for Lehigh Acres Utility System customers in the Homestead Road area is no longer in effect.

All biological testing samples were negative and residents can resume water usage as normal, a company-issued notice announced Wednesday.

Water samples were analyzed by a Florida Department of Health-certified laboratory confirmed the drinking water is safe to drink.

The boil water alert was issued after a car crash caused damage to a utility pole and a 12- inch water main on Homestead Sunday morning cutting water to 2,000 residents.

The 7:15 a.m. crash at 220 Homestead affected customers of the Lehigh Acres Utility System from Homestead Road, south of Veterans Park to include Majestic Golf Course, Mirror Lakes and Parker Lakes in the Blackstone area, Mirror Lakes Elementary, East Lee High School, also customers in the Amberwood community off of Richmond Ave., that is south of Danby Road and Marby Road were affected.

The Florida Governmental Utility Authority provides a boil water notice advisory under Florida Department of Environmental Protection requirements in the event that water pressure drops below 20 pounds per square inch in the service area.
