A man who shot and killed a friend's pit bull that had bitten him earlier on Sunday is being sought by the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

A report by the sheriff's office said that Block, a brindle pit bull at the Lehigh Acres home of Lloyd Rice, was in a  backyard area and unleashed. A friend of Marlis Callahan, Rice's roommate, came to the home and went into the backyard despite knowing the dog was aggressive and being warned not to enter that area.

The sheriff's report said that the friend was then bitten in an upper thigh area by Block around 2:45 p.m.

Callahan told deputies that his friend left and returned about 30 minutes later and was let back in the house.

Callahan said he had his back to the area where Block had been placed in his kennel when he heard a gunshot. He said he saw his friend standing in front of the kennel with a silver handgun and then the man ran from the house. Rice told deputies he heard the shot and saw the friend running from the home with a gun when he went to check.

Rice added that he saw Block in his kennel with blood him. Rice said Block ran out of the kennel and then returned and died.

Rice and Callahan signed a desire to prosecute affidavit. The sheriff's office is actively investigating the shooting.
